The Universitätsverlag Düsseldorf University Press (in the spelling of the publisher düsseldorf university press (dup)) is an affiliated institute of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .
The Wissenschaftsverlag was founded in July 2008 by Professors Hans Süssmuth , Detlev Riesner , Hans Jörg Thieme and Winfried Hamel. The current managing directors are Hans Süssmuth, Dieter Häussinger and the bookseller and businessman Wolfgang Teubig. Düsseldorf University Press is a member of the university publishers working group.

The Düsseldorf University Press publishing house aims to publish research results from Heinrich Heine University and other universities. In particular, titles from the fields of medicine, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences as well as economics and law are published.
History of the publishing house
On July 7th, 2008 the düsseldorf university press GmbH was founded in the Heinrich-Heine-Saal of the Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf . However, the history of the foundation begins in 2007. The initiator of the düsseldorf university press project , Professor Hans Süssmuth , was able to win over Professors Detlev Riesner , Winfried Hamel and Hans Jörg Thieme as members of the founding council. This group of four discussed the concept of the science publishing house, accompanied the process of founding the publishing house through to implementation and has since been involved in various bodies of the düsseldorf university press GmbH . In its meeting on May 24, 2007, the rectorate of Heinrich Heine University approved "the university's participation in the publishing house düsseldorf university press GmbH to be founded". In order to be able to start business operations on September 1, 2007, a company under civil law (GbR) was established as a pre-founding company. This made it possible to publish the commemorative publication 100 Years of University Medicine in Düsseldorf 1907 - 2007 at the Düsseldorf University Press . It was intended from the outset to convert the GbR into a limited liability company (GmbH) as soon as the group of shareholders was established and the articles of association were drawn up. Professors Winfried Hamel and Hans Süssmuth were shareholders and managing directors of the GbR . The Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MIWFT) gave Heinrich Heine University its approval for "entrepreneurial university activities [...] in the form of participation in a düsseldorf by decree of September 18, 2007 university press GmbH . " This cleared the way for the drafting of a statute and a cooperation agreement between Düsseldorf University Press and Heinrich Heine University. The draft statute was drawn up by Professor Hamel, and the cooperation agreement by Professor Süssmuth in collaboration with the lawyer Kirsten Ugowski from the Heinrich Heine University's legal department. The articles of association were adopted at the shareholders' meeting on July 7, 2008. On October 8, 2008, the rectorate of düsseldorf university press GmbH granted the status of an affiliated institute, following the considerations of the MIWFT in its decree of September 18, 2007 and the proposal of the founding group. At the rector's meeting on January 29, 2009, a cooperation agreement was signed between Heinrich Heine University and düsseldorf university press .

The spectrum of publications ranges from scientific monographs, anthologies and series to qualification papers, commemorative publications, textbooks and study materials to scientific advice. The publisher's publications appear as printed works and / or as publications on the Internet or in other suitable media and forms of scientific information and communication. All publications can also be published as electronic versions. The publishing house also offers young scientists a platform to make their research results available to the public. The University Press publishes an average of 30 books a year.
