Düsseldorf lid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Düsseldorf cover is a cover construction method for tunnels and deep construction pits , which was first used in the 1970s for the construction of the subway in Düsseldorf . Later it was also used to secure and stiffen other construction pits, for example for high-rise buildings.

The excavation is covered by a plate (a cover) and its walls are stiffened instead of using rear anchors.

Subway construction

In the 1970s and 1980s, the tram in Düsseldorf was partially laid underground (see history of the Düsseldorf tram ). First of all, a concrete slab was poured, which ran along the future underground roadway and was built flush with the existing street level. The above-ground traffic areas could then already be restored on the slab while the tunnel was being excavated underneath.

You can work on one side of wide streets so that the other half of the street is still available for traffic. At the beginning, the sides of the future excavation pit are made as diaphragm walls . The cover is concreted on the walls and on auxiliary supports. When the cover has been made on both sides of the street, the soil underneath is excavated and the tunnel, track bed and subway stations can be completed.

Construction pits for high-rise buildings

The method is now also used for building pits of high-rise buildings, first during the construction of the City Center Kö-Galerie in Düsseldorf from 1985 to 1987. First, the ceiling slab was concreted at street level, then the pit below was dug for four underground parking levels and the building above ground was erected.

The construction pit walls were also stiffened with a cover for the Sky Office high-rise in Düsseldorf with four basement floors, so that no anchoring to the neighboring properties was required to prevent the existing buildings from settling. The construction pit was only covered 50% by the cover plate, so that the accessibility for construction machinery and material was hardly hindered.
