The Düsseldorf Virtual Library (DVB) was a virtual library in the sense of a systematic catalog of Internet sources , a "systematically ordered collection of selected general and specialist information sources on the Internet" (self-description).
The DVB, which is arranged according to subject areas , was created by the subject specialists at the University and State Library in Düsseldorf . For a long time the leader in Internet indexing in the field of German academic libraries , after the departure of its initiator, Thomas Hilberer, some believe that it has lost its relevance and quality .
DVB can be seen as a forerunner of the virtual specialist libraries .
