The Düvekenstraße is a street of Lübeck .

location

The approximately 100 meter long Düvekenstraße is located in the south-eastern part of the old town island ( Johannis Quartier ). It begins near the St. Anne's monastery on St.-Annen-Straße , runs almost straight to the south-east and finally joins the street An der Mauer .

history

Düvekenstraße was first mentioned in a document in 1293 under the Latin name Platea diaboli ( Devil's Road ). The reason for this unusual name after the Prince of Hell is no longer known.

In 1310 the Low German form Düvelstrate is documented, in 1614 the completely different name Lütke St. Annenstrate (Kleine St.-Annen-Straße). In 1700, the High German variant of the original name, Teufelsstraße , was recorded in a document, which in 1768 was falsified to Taubenstraße . The current form of Düvekenstrasse has been officially established since 1852.
