Dōmo-kun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dōmo-kun ( Japaneseど ー も く ん) is a mascot of the Japanese public television broadcaster NHK, which is very popular with Japanese children . It is a small, furry, brown monster with black button eyes and an open mouth with sharp teeth. It is known by at least 90% of Japanese school children.

history

Dōmo-kun has starred in numerous video clips. It was created by an announcer who said dōmo konnichi wa , which means something like "Hello and good day!". Kun is a salutation suffix often used for young men. The figure was created in 1998 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the broadcast of the NHKs via satellite.

It owes its international fame mainly to a picture of two dōmo-kun that is circulating on the Internet chasing a kitten. It has the subtitle: Everytime you masturbate… God kills a kitten . In the meantime there is also another version of this picture, in which a dōmo-kun stands in the middle, which is attacked by two cats. It says: Everytime you send that fucking picture… God kills a Domo-kun .

Since June 30, 2008, the clips have been broadcast for the first time in the German-speaking area as part of the short film program “Nippez” on NICK after eight ; there the series is called Domo .

Use on the Internet

Until September 15, 2014, there was an animation website about Domo called DomoAnimate , which was operated by GoAnimate .
