The D-Delivery van L 7 was a small van of the Deutsche Industriewerke AG, which was built in Berlin-Spandau from 1927 to 1930. The three-wheeled delivery van met the demand for inexpensive vehicles for small and express transports in cities at the time.
history
The market success of the Phenomobil and Cyclonette three- wheeled vehicles also prompted the motorcycle manufacturer Deutsche Industriewerke to develop a small van as an inexpensive alternative to the automobile: in 1927 the Type L-7 D delivery van was presented. The vehicle, offered as a flatbed and box van , was able to carry a payload of half a ton . A version as a mobile market stall was also offered. The engine technology was taken over from the D-Rad . At a price of 1790 Reichsmarks , the van was affordable for many craft businesses and small businesses.
At the end of the 1920s, the company was faced with increasing competition as more and more manufacturers brought cargo tricycles onto the market; like the companies Zündapp , Monos , Mandernach , Rollfix-Eilwagen and Goliath ; The successful first Tempo three-wheelers appeared in 1928 . Therefore, the construction of the L 7 was stopped again in 1930 .
Technical specifications
The L 7 delivery van had two wheels at the front, between which the loading box was attached. The drive took place on the rear wheel. On request, a pillion seat was fitted behind the driver's seat; What was unusual was an automobile steering wheel instead of the motorcycle handlebars common to early vehicles of this type.
