D2 (computer)

The programmable calculator D2 (Dresden 2) was a type of computer from the GDR .

It was designed and built between 1956 and 1959 at the TH Dresden . Its designer was Prof. NJ Lehmann , father of many historical computers from Dresden .

Like its predecessor, the D1 , the D2 was a tube computer . However, he already had 1400 electron tubes , so he achieved a processing speed of 1000 FLOPS . Its drum memory could store 4096 words , one word corresponding to 56 bits . The D2 had 11 registers and 320 quick memories. He also had an assembler-like programming.

The successors to the D2 were the D3 and D4 digital computers .
