The class 704 belonged to the tower railcars . The DB Netz AG used the four-axle railcar for maintenance and repair work on the high-speed lines . The construction of this series was based on the 627.0 series . The five vehicles had the numbers 704 001 to 704 005. The railcars had been parked since 2012 and were all scrapped in 2014.
Car body and interior
The car body consisted of a steel frame. Sheets were welded on to clad the framework.
The large interior was designed as a workshop space .
Roof equipment
A pantograph was attached to the roof . In order to be able to work on the overhead line , a working platform was installed on the roof . There was an observation pulpit and searchlights .
drive
The series vehicles were powered by two 704 air-cooled V-12 - diesel engines of Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) . One was turbo-charged , the other was naturally aspirated . The vehicles of the 704 series were equipped with two twin-converter transmissions from Voith , which meant that the vehicles had all-axle drives.
Usually the vehicle was driven with both machines. Should it be necessary, for example due to an engine failure, it was only possible to continue driving with one machine.
