Working platform

Aerial work platform (scissor lift)

A working platform (residence platform ) is an add-on device and is used by the personnel performing repairs or maintenance work as a stand area and as a storage space for materials required during work. In contrast to the aerial work platform , work platforms do not have their own drive for level compensation. They are an alternative to scaffolding . In turn, they differ from the latter in that they are mobile. Lockable rollers are attached to the underside . This means that a working platform can change its location relatively briefly and without any particular effort.

commitment

For large and small companies, it is usually not worthwhile to purchase an aerial work platform for maintenance, repair and repair work, since the operating conditions are constantly changing, so work platforms of different types are also required. A forklift truck with a work basket can only be used to a limited extent, and for safety reasons we urgently advise against it, as the person in the basket could be injured by possible misconduct by the driver. The stability is only given for an aerial work platform with a CE certificate, as the dynamic forces that occur were calculated in advance. An alternative to the costly acquisition and operation of an aerial work platform is the temporary rental. In Germany, but also worldwide, there is a dense network of rental companies who usually have a suitable device for the respective application.

Working platforms are divided into two main groups according to EN 280 aerial work platforms:

  • Group A: Mobile aerial work platforms where the vertical projection of the load center is always within the tipping edge.
  • Group B: Mobile aerial work platforms on which the vertical projection of the load center can also be outside the tipping edge.

They are also divided into three types:

  • Type 1 driving is only permitted in the transport position
  • Type 2 driving with a raised work platform is only permitted from a control panel on the underframe (special devices)
  • Type 3 driving with a raised work platform (work basket) and control from above is possible
  • Type 1a z. B. Passenger lift with support
  • Type 1b e.g. B. all trailer work platforms and all truck work platforms
  • Type 3a z. B. Stamp mast platforms, scissor lifts
  • Type 3b e.g. B. all self-propelled articulated, articulated telescopic and telescopic platforms

Structural requirements

According to the BGV-D27 guideline for industrial trucks of the trade association for trade and goods distribution , the following requirements apply :

ground

The floor of the work platform should be closed, level and non-slip in order to ensure stability. To prevent tools from falling through openings on the floor, the openings should not be larger than 15 mm. The size of the floor should correspond to a flat pallet (800 mm × 1200 mm). There should be fork pockets under the floor, which must be closed at the bottom and to the side.

Enclosure

In order to secure people from falling and objects from falling, a fence is necessary. This should consist of a handrail, knee rail and baseboard. The skirting board should be 15 cm high to prevent objects from falling. The enclosure must be at least 1.10 m high and be permanently connected to the ground.

Back protection

Towards the lifting mast of an aerial work platform or lifting platform , a grid should be attached over the entire width of the working platform, which is at least 1.80 m high, in order to prevent injuries from the lifting mast. The grid should be close-meshed so that nobody can get through the mesh to the hazardous areas of the lifting mast.
