The DB Cargo Switzerland GmbH is the Swiss subsidiary of Europe's largest rail freight operator DB Cargo AG . The company emerged in 2007 as Railion Schweiz GmbH from Brunner Railway Services GmbH . The company was renamed to DB Schenker Rail Schweiz GmbH in February 2009 , and in 2016 to its current name.

history

In cross-border traffic with Switzerland, the former Railion Deutschland AG (later DB Schenker Rail, now DB Cargo) had been cooperating with BLS Cargo since 2001 , in which it held 45% of the capital until the end of 2014. Due to the so-called basic agreement between SBB and BLS from 2001, BLS Cargo does not carry out any single wagon load traffic in Switzerland. After taking over Brunner Railway Services GmbH in Dietlikon, Railion Germany was able to operate in single wagon load traffic between Germany and Switzerland even without its partner BLS Cargo. This also ended the partnership between Railion and SBB Cargo in single-wagon load transport.

When the XRail Alliance was founded in February 2010, 7 European freight railways, including the then DB Schenker Rail Deutschland AG and SBB Cargo AG, agreed that the single wagon load networks would in future be operated exclusively by the respective home railways. This means that the activities of DB Schenker Rail Schweiz GmbH in single wagon load traffic in Switzerland have been discontinued. Within the European network of the DB Cargo Group, its Swiss subsidiary was given new tasks, in particular in the construction and expansion of international block train transports in import and export from and to Switzerland to siding on various industrial tracks within Switzerland.

At the beginning of January 2015, DB Schweiz Holding AG sold its 45 percent stake in BLS Cargo back to BLS AG. The sale of shares is seen as a result of the relocation of 5,000 DB transit trains from BLS Cargo to SBB Cargo at the 2013/14 timetable change.

Services

In cooperation with other DB Cargo companies, DB Cargo Switzerland mainly carries out international transports. This includes transalpine transit traffic and the transport of mineral oil to tank farms in Switzerland.
