dBpoweramp is a software package from illustrate. It connects an MP3 converter to a CD ripper . The converter, which can also be controlled via batch processing , is also referred to by its full name as dBpoweramp Music Converter (dMC).
history
According to the manufacturer, illustrate has been in the audio business for over 15 years. To detect errors in digital ripping , i.e. when reading audio CDs , in English Digital Audio Extraction (DAE), illustrate developed the AccurateRip method. Since the technical specification for CD-DA (Compact Disc Digital Audio) only provides a very weak error correction mechanism, Illustrations relied on a results database for error detection. Since then, after each reading process, dBpoweramp has determined a checksum for the audio files that have just been created and compares it with results from other users already stored in the AccurateRip database. In order to receive as many checksums as possible from as many different CDs as possible in the shortest possible time, illustrate decided to allow other software manufacturers to use the database for non-commercial purposes. Therefore, in addition to the dBpoweramp CD ripper, the programs Exact Audio Copy and foobar2000 now also use this feature.
To the problem that no further information such as artist or track names are stored on audio CDs for music or voice recording, illustrate responded by connecting its software to various providers of databases for metadata . For the subsequent processing of the metadata stored as ID tags in the audio files, for the subsequent addition of images for the album cover or booklet and for the search for duplicates, illustrate has decided against an integration as a function in dBpoweramp. Instead, the separately available PowerTUNES program has been offered by illustrate for some time .
