DGM is an Italian progressive metal band.
Band history
DGM was founded in 1994 as a pure instrumental band. After finishing second in a local music competition, the band found Luciano Regoli, a singer whose roots were in 1970s progressive rock . In 1996 DGM recorded the EP “Random Excess Zone” with him. Before the release of the debut album "Change Direction" in 1997 on the Italian independent label Elevate Records, founding member Gianfranco Tassella left the band and was replaced by drummer Fabio Costantino. In 1999 the second album “Wings of Time” was released, which sold around 4,000 copies in Japan alone.
After various line-up changes , “Dreamland” was finally released in 2001, on which Titta Tani could be heard as a singer for the first time. Although not quite as successful as its predecessor, this album gave the band a record deal with the Italian label Scarlet Records , which released "Hidden Place" in 2003 and received very good reviews. In the same year singer Tani became drummer at Necrophagia in addition to his work at DGM .
A year after the 2003 album "Misplaced" was released, guitarist and founding member Diego Reali left the band and was replaced by Simone Mularoni. Also in 2004 keyboardist Emanuele Casali completed the DGM line-up. In this line-up, the band recorded "Different Shapes". After the live performances on this album, Titta Tani left the band, followed by Mark Basile as singer. In 2009 the eighth studio album "Frame" was released.
Music genre
The main influencers of the band include Symphony X and Dream Theater . The band values progressive structures, but these are made more catchy than some other progressive metal bands. Extended guitar solos belong to this style, most of the songs are played relatively quickly.
