DIGICOM

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DIGICOM> 64 software is a software implementation of the AX.25 protocol for the Commodore 64 .

development

DIGICOM> 64 was developed by Bavarian radio amateurs between 1985 and the beginning of the 1990s . Like today's software , it was available free of charge under free licenses . In addition to various updates with extensive extensions, there was also a separate version for the Commodore 128 later .

A successor for PCs running under MS-DOS also appeared under the name BayCom .

construction

The software required a simple modem for operation , for example with the TCM3105 modem chip , which was widely used at the time , which was connected to the mostly unused cassette port. An expensive Terminal Node Controller (TNC) as additional hardware was not required.

application

The AX.25 protocol is used in the amateur radio service and in the amateur radio service via satellites , especially in packet radio and in the Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS).
