The withdrawn DIN standard DIN 18025 regulated the structural requirements for barrier-free living for disabled and elderly people until 2011 . DIN 18025 consists of two parts:

  • Part 1: Apartments for wheelchair users; Planning principles
  • Part 2: barrier-free apartments; Planning principles

The first part regulates the planning principles for apartments for wheelchair users, the second part regulates the same for people with other mobility restrictions .

A distinction is made between the following barriers to barrier-free living:

  • Vertical barriers
  • Horizontal barriers
  • Spatial barriers
  • Anthropometric barriers
  • Ergonomic barriers
  • Sensory barriers

Further development

The DIN 18025 was established in September 2011 by the 18040 DIN -2 accessible buildings - Design principles - Apartments replaced.
