The DIN standard DIN 18024 describes the requirements for barrier-free construction of public transport routes and buildings for the disabled and elderly.
Scope of application
The standard consists of two parts:
- Part 1 streets, squares, paths, public transport and green spaces as well as playgrounds; The planning basis describes the requirements for streets , squares, paths , public transport and green spaces and playgrounds .
- Part 2: Publicly accessible buildings and workplaces, planning basis describes the requirements for publicly accessible buildings and workplaces .
The following groups of people are named as application area:
- Wheelchair users
- Blind and visually impaired
- Deaf and hearing impaired
- Handicapped people
- People with other disabilities
- elderly
- Children , short people ,
- tall people .
Further development
DIN 18024-2 has been replaced by DIN 18040-1 since October 2010.
In 2010, the standardization of DIN 18040-3 (briefly listed as DIN 18070) barrier-free building - planning principles - part 3: public traffic and open space began. This was published in December 2014 and replaces DIN 18024-1.
