The DIN standard DIN 820 of the German Institute for Standardization e. V. regulates the principles of standardization work in the Federal Republic of Germany insofar as it takes place within DIN . In addition to VDI 1000, the external standards committee, the Clean Air Commission, also refers to DIN 820.

The first DIN 820 with the title Standard Sheet - Dimensions and Design appeared in January 1923.
