Adler Union Frintrop is a sports club from Essen - Frintrop , which is primarily known for its soccer team (German DJK runner-up in 1931) and basketball team ( 2nd basketball league 1991/92 ). There were also departments for tennis and table tennis . Adler Frintrop is a member of the DJK sports association, which is close to the Catholic Church .
history
For the year 1910 the "establishment of a gymnastics department from members of the youth club St. Josef Frintrop" was attested. From this, today's club developed later. The greatest success in the club's history was the entry of the first football team, already under the name DJK Adler Frintrop, into the final of the DJK Reich Championship in 1931, which was lost to the DJK Sparta Nuremberg . After the war, the first soccer team played in 1949/50 and 1950/51 in the Lower Rhine regional league , the top amateur class at the time. In 2010 the club celebrated its centenary. As runners-up in the district league, the DJK footballers just failed to get promoted to the Lower Rhine regional league in 2010/11.
On July 1, 2014, Adler Frintrop merged with the SV Union Essen-Frintrop in 1913 to form the new large club DJK Adler Union Essen-Frintrop eV . The union dissolved and the members joined Adler Frintrop, which changed its name to Adler Union Frintrop.
Sports facilities
The soccer department's venue is the “Am Wasserturm” district sports facility on Frintroper Strasse with an artificial turf pitch, two ash pitches and a gym. The basketball players play in four sports halls in the Essen city area.
