DJ Babu (2010)

DJ Babu (born September 17, 1974 ; real name Chris Oroc ) is a DJ who, with his crew, the Beat Junkies (members including DJ Melo-D , DJ Rhettmatic , J-Rocc and DJ Shortkut ), decisively coined the term turntablism Has. Babu is a Filipino-American and lives in Los Angeles .

Along with Rakaa Iriscience and Evidence, he is a member of the Dilated Peoples formation . His activity in both groups earned him the nickname "Babu The Dilated Junkie".

In 1997, for the first time in the history of turntablism, he won three titles in three categories of the ITF DJ Battle : The ITF Beatjuggling World Champion, the ITF Scratching World Champion and, with his crew, the Beat Junkies, the ITF Team World Champion title. The ITF DJ Battle is considered one of the most important internationally organized DJ battles .

Under the name Turntablist , DJ Babu produced one of the most widely used scratch records : The Super Duck Breaks (released in 1996 on Stones Throw Records ) and its successor, the Super Duper Duck Breaks (2001 also on Stones Throw Records). New releases include the series Duck Season Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (both released on Sequence Records ), produced by DJ Babu and featuring guest appearances by various MCs .
