The DT-20 ( Russian ДТ-20 ) is a Soviet tractor that was manufactured in the Kharkovsky Traktorny Sawod from 1958 . A total of almost 250,000 copies of the vehicle were made.

Vehicle history

Restored DT-20, the driver's seat is rotated so that the tractor drives backwards (2009)

Parallel to the production of the predecessor DT-14 , the Charkowski Traktorny Sawod began to produce the DT-20 in 1958. The tractor is visually and technically very similar to its predecessor, but some changes have been made. The permanently available engine output has been increased from 14 to 18 hp. There were also changes to the crankcase and the built-in manual transmission. Only details on the body were changed, including the lettering on the side (now DT-20 instead of DT-14 as before). In addition, the setting options for the vehicle's track changed slightly. The special feature of the rotatable driver's seat, as it was already installed in the predecessors, was retained. This means that the tractor can be driven backwards and forwards, the transmission has four gears for both directions.

Series production ran until 1969, when production was discontinued in favor of the new T-25 . Up to this point in time, 248,400 DT-20 machines had been produced, and some vehicles have been preserved in museums or are still in use. The T-25, on the other hand, is still manufactured almost unchanged today, but no longer in the Charkowski Traktorny Sawod.

Model variants

During the production time there were different model variants, some of which are listed below.

  • DT-20-S1 - model with tall but narrow rear tires of size 8-32, which was mainly used in the cultivation of potatoes and similar crops that are grown in furrows or rows.
  • DT-20-S2 - vehicle with rear tires of size 10-28, used for general tasks as well as in transport.
  • DT-20-S3 , -S4 and -S5 - export models, recognizable by wider fenders, among other things.
  • DT-20W - The tires on this specialty tractor have been completely replaced by a tracked chassis . It was intended for use in vineyards.
  • DT-20K - The ground clearance has been increased to an extreme 1.5 meters, at the same time, so that the vehicle does not tip over, the track width has been increased to 2.1 meters. The tractor can drive through fields with tall plants without kinking them.
  • DT-20U - version as a narrow-gauge tractor for particularly narrow passages. With a total width of only 96 centimeters, it was used, among other things, in the livestock industry to be able to drive into stables.

Some versions were also equipped with light roofs, which only served as protection from the sun.
