Dalongdong

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dalongdong ( Chinese  大 龍 峒 , Pinyin Dàlóngdòng , native language: Pourompon) is an ancient settlement in Taipei . The area was incorporated into Taipei and is now an independent district in the Datong district .

In addition to Dalongdong, there were two other settlements in what is now Taipei before Taiwan's Japanese colonial era : Mengjia (now Wanhua ) and Da-Long-Chen ( Dadaocheng ).

In the native language, the name of the place was "Pourompon". There was a Japanese who researched Taiwanese place names and said that “pourompon” is the sound made when a stone falls into water. This view is plausible because Pourompon lies between the Danshui River and the ancient course of the Keelung River. In addition, the comparison with the very similar sounding German word “plumps” is very interesting.

The meaning of "Dalongdong" corresponds in German to "Great Dragon Cave". The name dates from 1864. At that time there were more scholars in Dalongdong than in Mengjia and Dadaocheng. A man said about "Dalongdong": The round mountain is the head and the Ha-Mi street is the body of a dragon. That is why there are so many scholars in Dalongdong.
