Dagö is an ethno - folk band from Tallinn , Estonia .

History and meaning

The band was founded in 1998 by Lauri Saatpalu, Peeter Rebane and Tiit Kikas. In 2000 the first album with the title Dagö was produced (label Hyperrecords). For this album the group received the prize for the best ethno-folk album of 2000 in Estonia. Toomas Rull (drums) and Raul Vaigla (bass) completed the band.

In 2001 Dagö won the main prize of the Lühima öö improvisatsioonifestival (Midsummer Night's Improvisation Festival) in Pärnu and appeared as the opening act for Jethro Tull in Tallinn. In 2002 founding member Tiit Kikas left the group. Producer and musician Kristo Kotkas becomes a new member of the band, but stays in the background and does not appear at concerts. In the same year Dagö released the second album Toiduklubi (food club) . Taavi Kerikmäe (keyboard) became a new member of the band.

In 2003 Dagö went on tour with Ultima Thule and produced the third album Hiired Tuules (Mice in the Wind) . For this album, the band received the prize for the best ethno-folk album of 2003 in Estonia. The drummer Petteri Hasa completed the band. In 2004 Dagö toured Estonia with the band Singer Vinger and received the award for the best ethno-folk band of the year in Estonia. In 2006 the fourth album Joonistatud mees (The Picture Book Man) was released. In 2008 the album Möödakarvapai was released .

In the autumn of 2008 the band announced on their homepage that there would be a long break. In an interview with the radio station Raadio Uuno , this break became clear as the final separation. The band's last concerts took place in November 2008.

Because of their demanding lyrics, the band is particularly popular with students and intellectuals.
