Dag Olav Hessen (born July 6, 1956 ) is a Norwegian biologist and university professor .

Life

Dag Olav Hessen finished his biology studies in 1982 and briefly turned to law studies before he successfully completed his doctorate in biology in 1988. In 1993 he was appointed professor of biology at the University of Oslo . Since 1998 he has been a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences .

Thematically, Hessen deals with ecology, evolution, food systems and combines this with other disciplines of ethics and philosophy. He published several popular science books and was awarded the Fritt-Ord-Preis , Riksmålsforbundets litteraturpris , Akademikerprisen and Humanistprisen .
