Daga ( Amharic ደጋ ደሴት Dägä Däset ) is an island in the south of Lake Tana in Ethiopia , only a mile southeast of the much larger island of Dek . The 0.5 km² large island reaches at its highest point 100 m above the lake level. On the island, which is not accessible to women, about 200 monks live in the monastery Daga Estifanos ("St. Stefan of Daga"), who also reject the keeping of farm animals. The bones of several Ethiopian rulers are laid out in the monastery. Among other things, the partly mummified remains of Yekuno Amlak , David I. , Zara Yaqob , Za Dengel , Fasilides and Bakaffa can be found here .
