Revision (egg tempera on cotton, 120 × 150 cm, 2011)

In times that were shaped by the “new painting”, video art , in the visual arts , Andrea Neumann opted for traditional figurative and objective painting. In doing so, she takes up the technical tradition of old masters by working with paints that she makes from egg yolk , linseed oil and water. Her preferred topic was people and their activities. Her color palette shows predominantly natural, subdued colors, diffuse and translucent subjects dominate her work. Cornelieke Lagerwaard describes this as follows: “Andrea Neumann does not stage because she defines moments that she finds in everyday life. Photos were an important part of the picture-making process, but they are only the beginning. In the course of the painterly implementation, the result exceeds reality. However, the artist makes it clear in her pictures that reality is also just an idea. "
