The Saarland Artists' House Saarbrücken e. V. is in the form of an association structure a place of work and meeting place for cultural workers from the fields of visual arts , literature and handicrafts . The facility is based in Saarbrücken .

Emergence

In the greater region ( Saarland , Rhineland-Palatinate , Lorraine , Wallonia , Luxembourg ) there was hardly any opportunity for artists living there to have intensive and sustainable communication with one another until 1984. The then Saarland state government under Oskar Lafontaine created a contact point for artists in this region when the association was founded in 1985. In the first few years after it was founded, the artist house was housed in Provisoria (on Schenkelberg and in Wilhelm-Heinrich-Straße) before moving to Karlstraße in Saarbrücken in 1992. There it found its final seat in a building of the Saarland Cultural Heritage Foundation , the former "Haus Riotte".

The current chairman of the Saarland Künstlerhaus is the writer Hans Gerhard [as of 2015].
