The Robert Schumann Prize has been awarded by the city of Zwickau since 1964 to "outstanding conductors, instrumentalists, singers, orchestras or institutions of German and international musical life", since 2003 every two years. It is currently endowed with 10,000 euros and commemorates the composer Robert Schumann , who was born in Zwickau. It was awarded annually from 1964 to 2003, and since then only every two years.
The head of the Robert Schumann House in Zwickau describes the award and the content of the prize as follows:
“The award goes to high-ranking conductors, scientists, instrumentalists, singers, orchestras or institutions of German and international musical life who have a special merit ! to spread the musical works of Schumann and to research his life and work. "

Two international Schumann competitions are also held in Zwickau: the International Robert Schumann Competition for piano and voice and the International Robert Schumann Choir Competition every four years .
