Elisabeth Breul

Elisabeth Breul (born August 25, 1930 in Gera ; † October 12, 2016 in Leipzig ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ) and vocal teacher .

Life

Elisabeth Breul studied first at the Music Academy in Gera with Marta-Luise Fink and then at the University of Music in Dresden with Klara Elfriede Intrau. From 1960 to 1992 she was a lyrical soprano member of the Leipzig Opera . She also worked on the basis of guest contracts at the Dresden State Opera and the Komische Oper Berlin . Breul had international appearances at the Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels, at the operas of Brno , Łódź , Budapest and Genoa . In the music centers of Romania, France, Spain and the USSR she has also appeared as a guest in the concert halls.

In 1970 Breul received the National Prize of the GDR and in 1972 the Robert Schumann Prize of the city of Zwickau . From 1962 Breul worked as a music teacher at the music academies in Dresden and Leipzig . In 1977 she was appointed professor in Dresden and 1982 in Leipzig. Breul has been an honorary member of the Leipzig Opera since 1992. Elisabeth Breul preferred to sing lyrical roles on stage. As a concert singer, she particularly emerged with a Bach and Handel repertoire .
