Dezső Ránki

Dezső Ránki (born September 8, 1951 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian pianist . Together with Zoltán Kocsis and András Schiff , he is considered one of the best Hungarian pianists of his generation.

He completed his music studies in Budapest in 1973 at the Franz Liszt Music Academy with Pál Kadosa and Ferenc Rados . After winning first prize at the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau , he began an international career throughout Europe, the Soviet Union, the USA and Japan. He has performed with the Berliner Philharmoniker , the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam and the Orchester National de France under conductors such as Georg Solti , Sándor Végh , Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta . He was twice awarded the Kossuth Prize , which is the highest cultural honor in Hungary. He is married to the pianist Edit Klukon, with whom he has had regular duo appearances since 1985.
