Hansheinz Schneeberger

Hansheinz Schneeberger (born October 16, 1926 in Bern ; † October 23, 2019 in Basel ) was a Swiss violinist and music teacher .

Life

Hansheinz Schneeberger started playing the violin at the age of six. Until his diploma in 1944 he studied with Walter Kägi at the Bern Conservatory , with Carl Flesch in Lucerne and with Boris Kamensky in Paris . After teaching at the conservatories in Biel and Bern, Schneeberger gave numerous concerts with his own string quartet. From 1958 to 1961 he was first concertmaster in the symphony orchestra of the NDR in Hamburg. In 1961 he was appointed to lead the master class at the Basel Music Academy .

Schneeberger was active worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. He also gave concerts under Ernest Ansermet in Vienna, Warsaw, Stanford and at the world exhibition in Montreal . In 1965 he played with Mieczysław Horszowski and Pau Casals at the Prades Festival . In 1984 he gave master classes in Kusatsu (Japan). In 1985 he took part in the Yun Festival in Tongyeong (South Korea). In 1986 he went on a tour with the guitarist Rudolf Wangler through what was then the Soviet Union. From 1988 to 1990 he took part in the Lockenhaus Festival every year , and in 1990, 1992 and 1994 at the Mondsee Festival under the direction of András Schiff .

In 1971, Schneeberger received the British American Tobacco Prize , and in 1995 the Robert Schumann Prize of the city of Zwickau .
