Herbert Kaliga

Herbert Kaliga (* 1931 in Opole , Poland ) is a pianist .

Life

Herbert Kaliga studied the bassoon with Otto Pischkittel in Rostock and at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin , then piano with Rudolf Dunckel and Dieter Zechlin . He then completed a degree in conducting with Adolf Fritz Guhl and Willi Niepolt.

From 1955 to 1997 he was a lecturer for accompaniment , song studies and vocal chamber music at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy. In 1985 he was appointed professor. Kaliga worked for many singers and instrumentalists as a piano accompanist a. a. with Siegfried Lorenz, Gustav Schmahl, Gisela May, Ruggiero Ricci, Christian Funke. Concert tours have taken him through Europe, Japan and America.

Herbert Kaliga was married to the singer Elvira Motz-Kaliga, who died in 2018.
