Ekkehard Otto

Ekkehard Otto (born April 10, 1928 in Zwickau ; † November 26, 2012 ) was a German chamber singer specializing in tenor.

Otto began his career as a choir singer and shortly afterwards became a soloist. From 1956 to 1961 and in the 1974/75 season Otto was permanently engaged at the Zwickau Theater. In addition to his work as a singer, Otto was involved in church music and working with choirs. Otto often returned to his theater in Zwickau for guest performances.

In his hometown of Zwickau, Otto worked for a long time as a city councilor and local politician on various committees. Ekkehard Otto received the Robert Schumann Prize in his hometown of Zwickau in 1972 . “Ekkehard Otto was ceremoniously awarded the Stephan Roth Citizens Medal at the 2005 Theater Ball for his longstanding successful work and commitment to the good of the city and its citizens.” Otto was the recipient of the Robert Schumann Prize in his hometown of Zwickau in 1972.
