The Dairsie Old Church , formerly St Mary's Church , is a church building near the Scottish village of Dairsie in the Council Area Fife . In 1984 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. A previously additional classification as a Scheduled Monument was lifted in 2017.

history

The earliest mention of a church on the site dates back to 1183. Probably in the course of the 13th century, the Archdiocese of St Andrews ordered a new building, which it subordinated to St Andrews Priory . The present Dairsie Old Parish Church was built in 1621 by John Spottiswoode , Archbishop of St Andrews , who resided at the neighboring Dairsie Castle . It is one of the early post-Reformation church buildings in Scotland. During the 18th century, the roof structure was renewed according to a design by the Scottish architect Robert Balfour . Between 1835 and 1837 the church was extensively redesigned. In 1966 the Dairsie Old Church was abandoned.
