Dakar 4x4

The Dakar 4x4 is a kit car - the successor to the Rotrax - and is based on the chassis of the Range Rover . The car was originally developed by Barry Chantler of Dakar Cars in Dartford (Kent) and is now manufactured (under license) by Steve Bennett of Dakar 4x4 Design & Conversions and Automobielbedrijf Dakar in Westerbork . There are around 120 conversions in the UK and more in the Netherlands. The bus ranger in Australia is a similar vehicle.

The Dakar construction has better driving performance due to its lower weight and higher slope angles than the Range Rover due to the shorter body.

The kit slowly evolved from a few cosmetic changes; today it can also be built on the chassis of the Discovery . Enthusiasts have also made various changes to the engine, such as: B. the installation of a 5.7 liter V8 small block from Chevrolet or a 7.3 liter V8 with nitrous oxide injection .

A factory-made Dakar also achieved television fame in the 1990s when it replaced the previously used VW-based beach buggy in the British TV series Challenge Anneka . The car was painted in the colors of the series (light blue body, yellow roll cage and yellow roof).

Barry Chantler also constructed a small Dakar for children, a project that reached at least the prototype stage.

The John E. Davis Motor Works in Australia produce the bushranger, which is derived from the Dakar 4x4.
