Dakar 4x4 Design & Conversions , previously Dakar Cars , is a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

1991 Barry Chantler founded the company in Dakar Cars in Wilmington in the county of Kent . Dennis Adams was the designer. They started making automobiles and kits . The brand name is Dakar . Steve Bennett took over the company in 2002 and relocated to Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire . His partner Tory Hill has been running the company since his death in 2007. A total of around 520 copies have been made so far.

Off-road vehicles are on offer . Initially they were based on the Range Rover , since 2002 optionally also on the Land Rover Discovery . Various engines up to V8 engines from American manufacturers drive the vehicles.
