Tempest Cars , previously Thoroughbred Projects , is a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Ian Foster, who also Teal Cars headed, and John Box, previously at TVR worked, founded in 1987, the company Tempest Cars in Burscough in the county of Lancashire . They started making automobiles and kits . The brand name was Tempest . Production initially ended in 1990. Thoroughbred Projects from Carnforth in Lancashire continued production from 1992 to 1997 while maintaining the brand name. Tempest Cars from Liverpool under the direction of Steven Campbell from 2001 to 2003 and under the direction of John Melody from 2006 to 2010 were the next manufacturers. Joe Mason, who also operates Reliant Spares , has been manufacturing the vehicles in Cradley near Worcester in Worcestershire since 2011 . A total of around 17 copies have been made so far.

Sports

The first and best-selling model is the Sports . It is based on a special chassis made of steel or aluminum , depending on the version . An open two-seater body with aluminum panels is mounted on top. The road version is supplied with doors and the heavier chassis, while the sport version dispenses with doors and uses the lighter chassis. Usually drives a four-cylinder engine of Reliant with 848 cc displacement to the vehicles. An alternative is an engine from the Chrysler Sunbeam with 928 cc. Disc brakes have been providing deceleration since 2006 . In the rear area there are slight differences between individual vehicles. Around 15 copies have been made so far.

Vantique

Vantique

The Vantique was a panel van on the same basis. Its wheelbase was about 20 cm longer. The front structure and the rear fenders were made of fiberglass and the hood and the rear structure were made of aluminum. In 1990, the original price was for a complete vehicle from 10,000 pounds . Between 1989 and 1997 there were eleven buyers.
