Covin was a British car brand.

Brand history

Timothy John Cook and Nicholas Alan Vincent founded in 1984, the company Covin Performance Moldings in South Woodham Ferrers in the county of Essex . They started making automobiles and kits . The brand name was Covin . From 1992 to 1995 Dax continued production while retaining the brand name, and from 1995 to 1998 Grannd Performance Cars from Luton in Bedfordshire under the direction of Richard Taylor. Production in England ended in 1998 when the latter company relocated to Galway , Ireland , where it operated as Grannd Performance Cars Limited . A total of about 498 copies were made.

The first and best-selling model was the Turbo Coupé . This was a replica of the Porsche 911 . One version was based on the chassis of the VW Beetle and had its four - cylinder boxer engine in the rear. Another version had a specially designed chassis that could accommodate various engines from the Alfa Romeo 33, as well as Ford and Volkswagen . About 317 copies of this model were made between 1982 and 1998.

In 1985 the Cabriolet added to the range. This was the cabriolet version of the Turbo Coupé . Around 100 copies were made by 1998.

The SE 930 was on offer from 1988 to 1992 and found around fifty buyers. It was a variant of the Turbo Coupé with a flat front and pop-up headlights . The special chassis formed the basis. Engines came from the VW Beetle, from Porsche and from Ford in the form of a V6 engine with a displacement of 2900 cc . About fifty copies were made of this.

The Speedster followed in 1988 . This was a replica of the Porsche 356 Speedster. About thirty copies were made by 1998.

The M 6 replica from 1986 was a replica of the McLaren M 6 racing car and remained a one-off.
