Alto Duo

Alto was a British car brand.

Brand history

1985 David Gornall founded the company Alto Component Cars in Preston in the county of Lancashire . He started producing automobiles and kits . The brand name was Alto . Alexander Graham Pipe of Automotive Concepts in Portsmouth took over the production of the first model in 1987. This was followed from 1995 to 1996 by Rhino Engineering from Newburgh under the direction of Antoni Dennis Konrad Offert and Barbara Chambers and from 1996 to 1998 Duo Cars from the county of Lancashire under the direction of Anthony Offord. Production ended in 1998. A total of about 24 copies were made.

The first model Duo was a miniature car . A body made of fiberglass was mounted on a spaceframe frame with a subframe from the Mini . The vehicle with two doors and a large tailgate offered space for two people. A version with an electric motor was also available between 1987 and 1988 . Around twelve copies were made between 1985 and 1998.

The second Boxer model was available from 1994 to 1997 and was manufactured exclusively by Alto Component Cars. This was a visually independent convertible sedan on a mini basis with the four-cylinder engine from the mini. About twelve copies were made of this.

There was no association with peer house cars , which produced some automobiles and kits until 1984 and marketed them under the Alto brand.
