Formula 27 Cars was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Brand history

Mike Ryan founded the company in 1991 in Brinscombe near Stroud in Gloucestershire . He started making blueprints, automobiles, and kits . The brand names were Formula 27 and Sterling . Steve Porter took over the company in 1992. Production ended in 2002.

YKC Sports Cars continued production under its own brand name, and then Image Sports Cars . These three manufacturers together produced around 90 vehicles and over 3,000 construction plans.

Brand name Formula 27

The first model was the F 27 , which was available as Clubman and MBE . These were Lotus Seven- style vehicles that were available in two different widths. Various engines from Fiat , Ford , Rover and Vauxhall Motors powered the Clubman . The MBE received motorcycle engines.

In 1998 the Blade appeared , a lighter version with an engine from the Honda Fireblade with 135 hp .

The KR Roadster was an open two-seater with seats almost on the rear axle. Ford four-cylinder engines or motorcycle engines powered the vehicle.

Brand name Sterling

Between 1996 and 1998, the company produced three copies of the Sterling Roadster . This was a replica of the Austin-Healey 3000 .
