Pilbeam Racing Designs

Pilbeam Racing Designs is a British racing car manufacturer based in Bourne, Lincolnshire since 1975 . Mike Pilbeam was the founder .

Early constructions

Before founding his company, Pilbeam worked for various teams in Formula 1 . After all, he was a designer for BRM , also in Bourne, where he developed the BRM P201 . He was also involved in the development of the BRM P67 from 1964. Pilbeam also worked on the Lotus 7X Clubman. He also designed the LEC Formula 1 that David Purley drove in 1977.

Hill Climbing Car

Pilbeam cars have always been particularly successful in hill climbs, which they dominated in the 1980s and early 1990s. They drove 17 winners of the British Hill Climb Championships from 1977 to 1996, e.g. B. Andy Priaulx and Roy Lane .

Racing cars for circuits

The company also made racing cars for circuits. First they worked on Pacific Racing's BRM-P301 project in 1997 , then they registered a car of their own design in the 2001 Le Mans 24-hour race . In addition, a number of touring cars were designed for manufacturers such as Vauxhall and Honda . Today, Pilbeam sees its market mainly in the LMP2 class. The only team driving an MP93 is Pierre Bruneau , who achieved three podium places in the 2006 Le Mans Series with their car with a Judd XV675 engine. On October 19, 2006, Pilbeam announced that they were planning to build a new MP93 for Embassy Racing .

Pilbeam also participated in the construction of the Lotus Sport Exige and built z. Z. cars for the VdeV Championship .
