Asquith Motor Company

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asquith Motor Company Ltd. is a British automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer .

history

The company was founded in July 1981 as Asquith Motor Carriage Company Ltd. with headquarters in Great Yeldham . It all started with the idea of restoring surviving examples of the Austin 12 Van . An increasing number of orders led to the decision to revive the model under its own brand name.

The company had 30 employees at the time and manufactured several thousand vehicles by 1997, most of which were exported. Rising manufacturing and development costs as well as the cancellation of a major order from Japan meant that Asquith had to file for bankruptcy.

The company was bought by Mike Edgar in 1997 . This relocated the company headquarters to Dresden in Germany . Important documents were destroyed when the Elbe flooded in August 2002 . In the following year, Simon Rhodes finally bought all rights and equipped a workshop in London for further production.

In 2005 Asquith bought the Vintage Motor Company Ltd. which currently produces the models Royale Windsor and Royale Saber . Also new is the Asquith Shetland , which is currently the manufacturer's smallest model.

Models

After the vehicles were built on the chassis of the Ford Transit until 2002 , the Iveco Daily has served as the base vehicle ever since .
