Speedex Castings & Accessories was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Jem Marsh, who previously worked at Dante Engineering , founded the company in 1958. Located at either 33 Jubilee Street or 17a Windsor Street in Luton . He offered vehicle parts and tuning . In October 1958 the production of automobiles and kits began . The brand name was Speedex . Production ended in 1962. Cambridge Engineering from Kew took over the company and continued production under the same brand name until 1963. A total of about 211 copies were made. 44 vehicles still exist. Jem Marsh later founded Marcos Cars .

The first model was the 750 . The vehicle was based on the chassis of the Austin 7 . The open body offered space for two people. The front fenders were designed to be co-steering. 150 copies of this model were made by 1963.

The Silverstone appeared a year later. It had the same base but integrated fenders. 50 copies were made by 1963.

The Sirocco appeared in 1960 . This was a coupe designed by designer Peter Hammond who later moved to Vauxhall Motors . The chassis of the Ford Ten formed the basis. Eleven copies were made. One had the British registration number 750 HTM .
