Lomax OBM-250

The Lomax Motor Company was a British automobile manufacturer. The brand name is Lomax . The vehicles are kit cars based on the Citroën 2CV . The kit was created in England in the early 1980s and came to Germany via Holland at the end of 1989 . The design is reminiscent of the legendary Morgan threewheeler of the 1930s. A Lomax is usually an open roadster that is driven without a roof. The Lomax Club Germany is still debating whether it should be called "the" or "the" Lomax.

description

The body is removed from an old 2CV and replaced with the individual parts of the kit . Before doing this, the engine's cooling fan is removed because the Lomax is only cooled with the airstream. The original variant is the one with three wheels (two at the front, one at the back). But there are also those with four wheels. The model designations 223 and 224 result from: 2 cylinders, 2 seats, 3 wheels or 2 cylinders, 2 seats, 4 wheels.

The Lomax usually has 29 hp, weighs around 450 kg, has two seats and a top speed of around 140 km / h. The fuel consumption is around 4 to 6 liters of super per 100 km. Some examples are equipped with a Moto Guzzi motorcycle engine . There is also an optional five-speed gearbox from a Swiss manufacturer instead of the Citroën four-speed gearbox. This professionally converts the original gearbox.

The Lomax has gone through many companies there since its development in England. Most recently, the East Sussex company Cradley Motor Works took over production. The company closed on January 12, 2019.

In the Netherlands the Lomax was available from Auto Bouw Service. In Germany, the Lomax was available from Der Franzose Automobiltechnik GmbH, but its future has become uncertain. The tricycle model 223 is no longer available due to changes in the law. What becomes of the four-wheel model 224 is not clear.
