Heron Plastics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heron Plastics is a British cartwright based in Greenwich (London) . In 1960 he manufactured GRP bodies for special models derived from the Austin Seven . One of these was also the basis for the first Diva GT in 1961 . At the same time, Heron also built a complete automobile of its own, the Coupé Europa . However, the car was only presented at the Racing Car Show in 1962 .

The car had a central tubular frame made of steel with outriggers at the front and rear to accommodate the drive. Independent suspension on wishbones with coil springs should ensure good road holding. Disc brakes were installed in the front, drum brakes in the rear. The GRP body was connected to the frame and a plywood floor pan. An overhead four-cylinder in-line engine from Ford with 998 cm³ or 1,500 cm³ served as drive . With the larger engine, the acceleration from 0-100 km / h was 8.5 s and the top speed was 185 km / h.

The Europa was offered as a fully equipped kit car for £ 580 or as a partially assembled car for £ 730.

Only 12 copies were made before production was discontinued in 1964 for economic reasons.

Peter Monteverdi's MBM Tourismo was based on the Europa.
