Humming bird

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Humming Bird was a British car brand that was founded by Pippbrook Garages Ltd. between 1948 and 1950 . Made in Dorking, Surrey . It was a light vehicle.

The Humming Bird Sports was based on the pre- WWII Austin 7 . The narrow chassis with the side-controlled 0.75-liter four-cylinder in-line engine was equipped with a two-seater body with curved front fenders. The rear wheels had wheel covers. The engine was equipped with two Solex carburetors, which was more than the original 12 bhp (8.8 kW) of the pre-war Austin. The grille had a maple leaf design.

After the Humming Bird Sports had been partially built from used parts, it was not considered a new car in the fiscal sense. This was able to avoid the relatively high new car tax in the United Kingdom.
