Mike King Racing is a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

Mike King, who previously worked for the Cooper Car Company , founded the company in Liss in 1970 and began producing automobiles and kits . The brand name is King . In 1971 the company moved to East Dereham . Around nine kits were produced by 1971 . Since then, the company, which is now based in Sandwich , has only produced complete vehicles.

The Thing model was a single seat hot rod . A body made of fiberglass was mounted on a tubular frame . A four-cylinder engine from the Ford Anglia (100 E) powered the vehicle. Alternatively, engines from the Ford Anglia (105 E) and Morris Minor could be used. The kit cost 220 pounds , but found no buyers. A vehicle with the British license plate YOU 8 J has survived.

The trike , a three-wheeler, also had a body made of GRP. The front fenders were similar to those of the Lotus Seven . One vehicle was built with the engine from the Renault 4 , another with the engine from the Renault 5 . Both vehicles remained unsold.

The Type 35 was a replica of the Bugatti Type 35 . The open body offered space for two people. Two vehicles were created.

The Type 51 , a replica of the Bugatti Type 51 , had an aluminum body . Two copies of this model were also made.

King also made a replica of a MG K 3 and a Bentley 4 ½ liter .

The company has been making replicas of Bugatti vehicles since 1971. The auction house H&H auctioned a 1986 vehicle on February 16, 2000 for £ 6,500 , and Bonhams sold a 1990 vehicle on September 10, 2005 for 24,856 .
