Kingfisher Motors Limited was a British manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

1981 Roger King founded the company in Rothbury in the county of Northumberland . He started producing automobiles and kits . The brand name was Kingfisher . Production ended in 1983 or 1984. Vortex Developments from Morpeth in Northumberland continued production from 1984 to 1985 or only 1985 while maintaining the brand name. A total of about 35 copies were made.

The only model was the sprint . It was something like the successor to the Minijem , but it was longer and higher. The Mini formed the basis . The coupé body was made of fiberglass . The windshield came from the VW 1303 , the rear window from the Datsun 120 Y and the taillights from the Ford Capri . With the help of a turbocharger, the most powerful four-cylinder engine produced 125 hp from a displacement of 1480 cm³ .

The vehicle was supposed to be a rival to the Porsche 911 , but that was too ambitious.
