Nelco Limited was a British company in the engineering and manufacture of automobiles .

Company history

The company was founded in the 1930s. The location was on either side of Station Road in Shalford . Nelco stood for Nelson and Collins . In 1947 the production of automobiles began. The brand name was Nelco . Was advertised u. a. in the British Medical Journal in 1947 and 1950. In 1950 automobile production ended. In the 1980s the company was dissolved.

The only model was the Solocar . This was a single seat tricycle with a single front wheel. An electric motor was mounted in the rear and drove the rear axle. Six batteries , each with 6 volts, were also arranged in the stern. The range was given as 56 km. Such vehicles were especially intended for the physically handicapped.

A vehicle from this manufacturer was exhibited in the Ramsgate Motor Museum in Ramsgate . Another vehicle is on display at the Taranaki Aviation Transport and Technology Museum in New Plymouth, New Zealand. One vehicle was auctioned on October 1, 2005 for £ 200 .

Reselco produced almost identical vehicles from 1935 onwards. The connection is unclear.
