Dallas Schoo Dalton , known as Dallas Schoo (born November 20 in Louisville , Kentucky ), is an American guitarist and guitar technician. Since 1987 he has been working as a guitar technician for U2 .

Career

Schoo founded the country band The Dalton Brothers in the 1960s and was later stage manager and at times guitarist for the band Firefall with Rick Roberts . He can be heard as a musician on the album Elan , which reached platinum status.

But Schoo became better known in the music industry through his work as a guitar technician for bands and musicians such as The Police , Eagles , Prince , Pearl Jam , Lynyrd Skynyrd and Steven Van Zandt . He is best known for his collaboration with The Edge from U2, which has existed since 1987 .

At the end of 1986 Schoo was working for the band Mr. Mister when he received an offer through Daniel Lanois to go on tour with U2 as a technician for the new album The Joshua Tree . On the advice of Bill Graham , he decided to work with U2 and has been a technician at all of the band's concerts and studio recordings since then. As a result, he is significantly involved in the implementation of the "Edge Sound System", which has continued to develop in over 20 years of collaboration. Edge uses more than 20 guitars at some live concerts, which have previously been strung by Schoo. During the show, he hands the tuned guitars to Edge and sometimes operates the effects. The precise provision of the guitars and the coordination with the effects is an elementary part of the show and requires weeks of coordination between Schoo and the band.

Thanks to the detailed soundcheck with all guitars that Schoo performs before all U2 concerts, he is well known to the band's fans and, as a "cult figure", has his own online fan community. In Davis Guggenheim's film It Might Get Loud , Schoo explains some of the stage setups and effects used by Edge.

"There's one person I'd like to thank as without him this whole tour just wouldn't be possible. I'd like to introduce you to him now. Dallas Schoo Dalton, he's over here! ... Dallas is one of our biggest influences. "
