Dallay

Dallay is a French publisher of philatelic catalogs based in Paris since 2001 . The two main authors are Luc Dartois and Jean-Bernard Pillet.

The Dallay catalogs stamps from countries that are of particular interest to French collectors . This of course includes the brands from France , but also from the French overseas territories, the French post office in Andorra , and Monaco . At the end of 2005 Dallay also brought out a catalog of the postage stamps from the areas of the former French colonial empire .

The main feature of the Dallay is that it publishes significantly more information on the individual stamps (e.g. who designed the stamp) than its two main competitors, Cérès and Yvert et Tellier . The result was that the prices of the competing catalogs were significantly reduced and a free catalog was also offered on CD-ROM.

In 2004, however, Dallay was charged with counterfeiting and unfair competition in a French court. They had used the Yvert number system introduced by Yvert in 1895. In 2005, however, an amicable agreement was reached. Yvert et Tellier then began to sell their rights to the number system, so that on payment of the corresponding sums, the users now acquired the right to print an index of the Yvert stamp number at the end of their catalogs. Dallay took advantage of the opportunity to publish his 2005-2006 catalog.
