Damián Szifron (born July 9, 1975 in Ramos Mejía , Buenos Aires Province ) is an Argentine film and television director and screenwriter . He is the creator of the popular Argentine television series Los Simuladores .

Life

Damián Szifron grew up in Argentina as the son of a father who was crazy about films and who inspired him in his youth. Szifrón later learned the film trade at ORT High School. He and his friends, including the screenwriter Ángel Faretta , made a few short films. He later created the popular Argentinian television series Los Simuladores , which won the Martín Fierro television award . As a tribute to his friends, he gave the characters in the series role names from his childhood and youth. He then made several films, including El Fondo del Mar (2003) and Tiempo de Valientes (2005). Another season of Los Simuladores and the television series Hermanos y detectives followed .

In 2014 he made the film Wild Tales - Everyone goes crazy! . The film started at the Cannes Film Festival and was very successful in Argentina. At the 2015 Academy Awards , he was nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film . It also won the National Board of Review Award for Best Foreign Language Film .
